My name is Steve
Shedd and here’s my life story (Reader’s
Digest version). I was born and raised in Post, Texas and graduated high
school there in 1978. I was married in 1980 and divorced in 2001. I have
three children (Brandy, Blake and Brooke) and two grandchildren (Zach
and Lili).
I started singing in church at a young age. I sang in choir in high
school and also played bass and sang in a few country bands after
high school. I began writing songs during my time in the Army and
have continued writing since.
I shot field archery and hunted small game when I was a kid, but
quit shooting archery when I was about sixteen. I got on my first
deer lease in the early 90’s and shot my first deer that year (a very nice
8 point buck with a .243 rifle - still my biggest buck to date). I got
back into archery and bow hunting at my son’s urging. I hunted
with a compound bow (still do sometimes) for a couple of years then got
into traditional bows. All my children have hunted with me and two of
them have harvested deer with their bows. My grandchildren are only three
years old, but are already shooting their longbows in the back yard with
me.

A few years ago,
I started writing songs about my passion - hunting (specifically
bow-hunting) and thoroughly enjoyed singing them around the campfire
on hunts or at 3-D shoots I attended. In 2005, I had a request to
write a song for a hunting video. I had such a good time recording
the song (Turkey Huntin’)
that I decided to go ahead and record more of my “hunting songs”.
Thanks to Charles Kirkland, of C-K Productions, his son Ryan Kirkland,
and Ryan’s wife Kimberley, we were able to put this CD together.
I hope to be able to continue to write about this passion of mine and
to keep on recording the songs I write. If the good Lord is willing,
I’ll be able
to start on a second CD before too long. My hope is that hunters everywhere will
enjoy this music and that this CD (and those that hopefully will follow) will
be instrumental in promoting hunting and wildlife conservation everywhere. |
